I had one of the best photo shoots of my life the night I shot this picture. I was alone, but it was a wicked fun night as I was exploring and shooting pictures of the otherworldly landscape. The weather, landscape and the atmosphere was truly inspiring. There is a little of lense distortion, but it does actually work for the picture here IMO. Long exposure, bracketed (2), blended in PS, usm.

Stunning shot. I really like the hint of colour at the horizon, the difference between the mirror like tidal pool and the almost cloudlike effect of the sea. At first I thought it was actually a shot taken above the cloud line.

Again I think that's it a bit too much of everything. Would love to see a more tight cut around the focuspoint.

Again, I'm happy that you care, and your input is welcome because it forces me to think even more about how I make my pictures. However, not to sound defensive, but the whole point of this photo IS its wide-angled composition. To get everything that I wanted into it I literally spent this picture more than an hour alone (I'm not kidding here) to very carefully compose and balance it so that I was sure to get everything right, it's not like this was randomly fired on automatic. The details and "fan" line-patterns from horizontal to diagonal in the front, the still water pond in contrast to the long exposure cloudy waves, the shoreline from close to distant, the charismatic big rock with a hint of a small creature on it, the distant rock formations and the sunset color transitions, these were all aspects I was aware of and something I was trying to balance when I set up the shot. I can't imagine how I could've done it differently. And speaking of which; As with "Serenity Mirrored" I also did different variations of the scene, and closer-up shots like you're suggesting, and trust me; they didn't work as well, and that's why this version was submitted instead.

Thanks :)

I just realized that this long exposure of the waves look cloudy, as if this scene were actually in the sky somewhere. Cool effect

this picture has three distinct parts to it, but all blend and come together beautifully....
A wonderful use of long exposure which gives the ocean an eerie fog-like quality.....

A truly beautiful long exposure...I'd even rank it among the best I have ever seen.
Distortion?
What Distortion?
The photo transcends such a wonderful mood and is of such a high quality, who honestly cares (and notices) a minor camera flaw?
What I love best about it is (of course) the wide-angled composition and the combination of muted colours in the foreground and the rich and bold sunset in the background.
Dreamy...no less...

Oh oh oh :D Another master-shot from the otherworldly sir :XD: heh, truly, another shot that captivates the eyes & sparks the imagination, & once again a sense of non earthlike atmosphere comes to mind when observing the image, all the elements flow rather well & the focus & colouration gives the effect that you aimed for being that of a different planet, eh? ;)

And of course, when i look at your pictures i see more than just a picture ;p i see a story, a background, depth. Good images touch your mind with idea's in my opinion, :) what first catches my thoughts when looking at the picture is the ocean; its soft edges & contour gives the sense of inexpansable mist, it makes me think of a planet which oceans are like soft mist amongst the land, the water pooled in the rock pools does look like water though; thus it makes you think; does this planet have some sort of strange elemental mist that acts in place of water? afterall, a different planet could be anything really.

The contrasts used in the image are well done aswell, the sky gradientation is smooth, warm yet at the same time forbiddingly cold, just like the majestic look of the ocean/mist like ocean & the use of a dark island figure amongst it, while the ocean is captivating, it also looks amazingly cold like some sort of ice flow, the mountains darkness amongst it all adds to a keen sense of isolation & the feeling of distance.

When i look at the ocean i can see it moving in my mind, but not like a normal ocean, more like mist that has some sort of intelligence, almost sentient one would say, the soft looks & how it blends between the rocks & land make it seem almost caring; like they comfort each other, like they where made to work perfectly, the soft colours while before did represent a feeling of something forbidding, also work in the other way, the sense of cool, soft & smooth colours & blends accentuate the sense of harmony amongst the planet.

In the foreground the rocks again show contrast, this time being they are rough & textured, & then compare them to the ocean, soft & smooth as can be yet still with soft detail (perhaps representing a link, thus the theme of perfected harmony), this again gives more depth & feel; is this a place with & without substance, a dream perhaps. Or is it representing opposites co-existing in peace? Anything is possible.

Truly another inspiring image you have put together Bjorn :) I am always impressed with your shots, they always have such motion, such feeling & depth, & whats even more interesting is how you capture the feeling of being on a completely different planet, once again another well deserved favourite man! :D :)

Adore the way the long exposure makes the waves that are crashing on the rocks look cloudy and calm, also how the small pool in the foreground remains untouched and clear in the photo :)

yeah man, I know just how those photography outings feel, I only ever feel truly at peace taking a picture when I'm on my own in the mountains. This turned out really nice, the still water next to the longer exposed water add some kind of fantasy vibe to the picture. :)

Absolutely beautiful. I love the small, darker pool of water in the front, it serves as a nice contrast and jagged focal point (for myself atleast <_< ). The slight hint of color in the sunset is gorgeous as well, it's not overly dramatic or distracting. Magnificent picture as always, you manage to capture landscapes perfectly. =D :+fav:
