Remember Me by bkm Remember Me by bkm
...

Edit: This is a new version of an old image submitted last year. People seemed to like the old image (I've even spotted it at my collegues desktops...) though it looked dirty (Lots of noise f.ex., and it looked very "photoshopped" as well..), so I did quite a bit of cleaning on it, and I hope people still like it. At least in my opinion it looks more high quality now.

Here is the old image for comparison for those interested: [link]

the levels on this look a lot more realistic, but i really like the old one better just because of that, it looks unreal :)

how did you do that? It looks awesome now! I don't remember seeing it before, but it looks like it came straight out of the camera instead of all photoshopy. :giggle:

There is certain element I like about both of the images! The old one does have a very enhanced sky though! Which did look a little unreal :)

This is so amazing... the composition is great, you fit the whole scene in the frame...

each element is gorgeous in its own right, but you then take it a step up by combining them just right. The sky is stunning, the grasses add a rough-growth texture to the bottom, and the rocks, water, and lush green hills frame the horizon and create a wonderful balance along side that "painted" sky

top notch work as always,
keep em coming!

Another impressive landscape...what I admire here is the clarity and the fact that the image is tack-sharp!
Wonderfully composed and layered with this to-die-for sky, the mountain range and the brown grub on the sea.
The thing you gotta do in your upcoming Deviations is to provide us with a little more detail on lenses, filters, etc. ...I'm always interested in this technical stuff.
Top notch work again...

I'll try to remember. I post pro my images in PS so the exif information gets lost on the way. I shot this handheld with my EOS 10D and the EF 17-40 F/4L lense. I shoot most of my stuff it in "RAW", so post pro is therefore required. So I leveled the sky and the ground separately in PS to gain contrast on the ground/water without losing cloud detail.

ISO 100
Focal length 17mm
Aperture 4.0
Shutter speed 1/3000

Thank you.

I have found that as long as I don't "save for web" my exif info stays with the file...
you can set in the preferences it to give you choices when you save regarding saving previews and icons (which make the files bigger and bulkier, hence their providing "save for web" which just saves the image itself... but you want SOME of the resource fork data) i've been doing that on my shots, and it seems to be working... but I'm not sure about with raw files

another pain in my arse is that the util i use to convert my raw's to tiffs (canon raw files...) allows me to export in a few formats: 8 bit Tiff (w/out EXIF) 8bit Tiff (w/EXIF) or 16bit Tiff (WITHOUT exif)

WHYYYY!!!????

lol
oh well :)
Not sure if its really worth using raw yet anyways... haven't been able to tell much of a difference so far...

It's not worth it if you don't like to fiddle with the images in post pro. So for most people it's not worth it at all. It can even be a negative experience because it's such a long road to go compared to ready-to-use jpegs. But to me it's worth it because I like to balance my pictures in PS most of the time because I think I do a better job at it than the camera does (To meet my personal style I mean). And in "raw" the camera hasn't smeared its settings on top of the picture before I smear MY settings onto it. So you put less "exhaution" on the image so-to-speak.

Thanks so much for your inputs on my deviations BTW. And I'll try out your tip on EXIF, thanks.

Hey, thanks for the advice, I appreciate you taking the time!
I think I'm just gonna mix up Raw and JPEG... if it's a less important shot, I'll take my chances with JPEG (I don't have enough memory card space to really go all RAW quite yet... my 256 only holds about 50 images...)

Hehe, yeah, I will try to set up an account during this month.

All my images in deviantart are shot with digital SLR (With a few exceptions where I've used a IxusV) (most of them with a Canon EOS 300D, but I used my 10D for this one).

Thank you.

The 300D? Sure, the 300D is a fenomenal DSLR for the money, no doubt about it.

There is so much color and texture in this photo, I don't know where to begin!

I like how, in contrast with the vibrant blue sky, the water is a slate-grey color. There's a surreal element to it where, on the right, it gets incredibly smooth and calm.

The "rule of thirds" is followed nicely in the foreground, with the rocks in the first third, the bright brown and the lone rock in the center for the second third, and the abundance of water in the last.

The darkness of the hills sets the stage upon which the hovering cloud is exposed in all it's glory. It is actually overlapping the top of the hill, which makes one wonder: "Is that really a hill and not a mountain, or are those clouds just exceptionally low to the ground?"

Lastly, the continuation of the land along the horizon with clouds, once it ends, leads the eye across the whole picture.

This is, undoubtedly, a very well-composed shot.
